In Brno I visited the ossuary, essentially the graveyard overflow storage for skeletons, now neatly and artistically arranged, such that it is somewhat surreal to realise how many lives were lived to produce each pile....
Also toured a ww2 / cold war bunker, art gallery, and former laboratory of a bloke called Mendel who was a pioneer in recognising inheritance of character traits, ie selective breeding, a forerunner to work on genetics and DNA.
And for dinner had my first Moravian Sparrow, which is really pork, and just another variation on a plate of meat and dumplings!

Mikulov

Next day, heading south in more scorching sunshine, through rolling hills and vineyards.

Saw a bird catch a butterfly in flight
Stopping to hike up to a castle ruin, a little worried about leaving bike and stuff for an hour to run up a hill but no issues here or before or since. I think people are generally pretty trustworthy / don't wan to touch a tramps bags of smelly camping gear.

Was thinking about targeting a hill top for the night but it proved far too steep so last minute booking at the one and only brand new hostel in Mikulov. Turns out the town is super pretty and also coincidentally is hosting a classical guitar festival, so a few hours later found myself in the castle/ chateau being mesmerized by amazing technique.

Met Adrian, a German history / media masters student and Ayako from Tokyo, a professional wedding photographer and a rare breed as a tall and solo Japanese backpacker.

9th July, day off (again) took the bus with Adrian to nearby Valtice - Lednice UNESCO world heritage landscape, yes the whole area was owned by the Lichtenstein family and they went to town on the chateaus, gardens and follys

In the evening climbed the "holy mountain" overlooking Mikulov for sunset. Its covered in little shrines but as with most religious stuff I can't be bothered to translate the signs.
